This is my dream.
The natural light pours in, and the warm wood smells of the open fire create a home away from home. People are welcomed to be themselves here, and what their self is is as changing as the weather. There is something sleeping in each of them that needs to be woken up. That’s why they’ve come. On the outside, they have a good life: a job, a family, a home. But these things don’t give them the satisfaction they crave. There is a disconnection between their life and meaning. They need the tools to connect.
Big Oak Studio works to wake others to their genuine selves through creative tools.
The Studios will be a place to nourish and heal creatives and those who want to explore their creativity. Art therapy, creative coaching and workshops will be the core offerings, but I want it to be a space that facilitates all kinds of exchanges about meaning making. We help people find what makes them come alive, arrive at acceptance of where they’re at, inviting vulnerability and exploring possibilities of consciousness together.
Big Oak will be a place to generate ideas, explore repressed emotions, shed the social cloak and social facade, let urges and atavism loose.
I want creatives, lots and lots of creatives, to come and rediscover play, to butt heads against each other and work out the kinks in their souls. I want non-creatives to come and find out that creativity is a choice and not a gift from the gods. I want children to come and learn how to express negativity and unleash their beasts in healthy ways. I want children to teach us, collaborate with us, because they have such innate knowledge of the simple joy in making. I want to prove that playful art is as important as serious art, and that the two can coexist, need to coexist. The studio will run paid workshops for those in financial stability and offer places for those without the resources to pay. Big Oak will offer outreach programs for the elderly, disabled and children. I want to smash limiting beliefs and inner critics. I want to plant seeds of thinking differently in people that will grow into an amazing wilderness of knowing that anything and everything is possible.
Big Oak will offer a safe space to create and explore the mind, and unlock your limitless potential. Everyone is welcome, on condition that they come with an open heart.
Big Oak Studios is a five year plan. It’s becoming more and more real, so watch this space.
‘You have to tell yourself, “I am the beauty in life. It took a whole universe to create me and here I stand, fully human.” The song you write may be beautiful, the research you conceive may be beautiful, but you are the real beauty in life. Your sense of your own beauty will color everything and bring you a measure of peace, even as your trials continue.’ -Eric Maisel, The Van Gogh Blues.
